There will be more than twenty new units this time around and a few small changes to the look for some existing units. The governments are selected at your nation's senate, a new building that also determines where your capital is. Each government, from monarchy to democracy, offers unique benefits in terms of military and economic potential. Since these boundaries determine the area in which you can build new structures and the area in which unsupplied enemy units start to take damage, it should mix up the Lakota player's strategy quite a bit.Īnd though you're sure to find plenty of variation based solely on the type of nation you pick, the choice of government also influences your nation's character. More interestingly, the Lakota don't have national boundaries at all. ![]() For instance, the Persians have two capitals instead of just one, giving them an extra shot at life if their first capital happens to fall to the enemy. Some of the new nations should change up the strategies of the game quite a bit. Finally, the Dutch have been included as well, just to keep the Europeans from feeling totally left out. These American tribes will be supplemented by two Eastern nations, the Persians and Indians. Thankfully, we're finally going to see some Americans in the game (Go, America!) and we'll also see two new notable Native Americans with the addition of the Lakota and Iroquois tribes. Six new nations will be included this time around. And now they've just sent us exclusive first details and screenshots for the expansion pack, Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots. Big Huge Games, headed by Civ 2 veteran Brian Reynolds, managed to craft a real-time strategy game that relied on more traditional turn-based ideas without sacrificing any of the immediacy of games like Age of Empires or Warcraft. ![]() Rise of Nations is a fantastic example of this. ![]()
